A couple of months ago, I realized that I was pretty much expected to make Sadie’s Halloween costume this year. Which was more than a little daunting. When I asked her what she wanted to be, she immediately yelled, “BLACK!!! CAT!!!!”. (I later figured out that Dora was a black cat in a Halloween episode, and that’s all Sadie knows about Halloween.) As boring as a that sounded to me, I was secretly stoked, because as far as costumes go…well that’s as easy as it gets. A few weeks later she announced she was gonna be a “BLACK CAT TUTU!!!!!”, which made things only slightly more complicated. But still. Easy-peasy.
I whipped this costume up lickety split, using felt, hot glue, and a black headband for the ears, black elastic and tulle for the no-sew style tutu, and crushed stretch velvet to make the leggings and shirt. (There’s no tail, because I was feeling lazy, but I figured the tutu is distracting enough that you don’t really miss it.) She is obsessed with the costume, which was a huge relief. It could just as easily have gone the other direction… where she wouldn’t have even agreed to look at it.
My plan was to just show you a couple of photos like this one, where she just looks darn adorable, and call it a day.
But Sadie had other plans. So without further ado, I give you an impromptu dance recital featuring the one…the only…
BLACK CAT TUTU!!!!
THANK YOU NEW YORK!!!!
