So remember this post? All that stuff about the suburbs and a garage and a backyard? Lets just put that off a bit. Because something big has happened.
We are some of the crazy-fortunate New Yorkers who have an extra room in their apartment, and until now it’s been a catch-all space…Some big bookshelves, a file cabinet, our treadmill, stroller parking, occasional blow-up guest bed, etc. And a little corner of it was my sewing space. About a month ago I realized the absurdity that was ensuing in that little corner… tote bags packed with fabric, stacks of supplies, machines on the floor, etc. And then there was the paint color. I called it baby poo. Here’s a little peek of the wall color from one of my first blog posts. Please excuse the horrible iPhone photo. And the baby poo.
So imagine a little white table there, plus about 5 tote bags of stuff spilling all over the place. That’s the best “before” image you’re gonna get, cause I couldn’t even stand to take any proper before shots. The amount of time I was spending working in this room has been exponentially growing, and the awful vibe and awful color just sucks the life right out of me. So once I had the idea in my head to
commandeer improve the space, I moved like lightning. Operation sewing room. Boom.
I moved the big shelving units into our bedroom, purged a bunch of stuff we no longer needed, picked a really light and airy paint color (to make photography a million times easier, especially considering the lack of light in our place), and then raided IKEA and Target for some super affordable but functional furniture, curtains, decor, etc. And now I’m in heaven. Seriously. I’m not even gonna bore you by talking about it. Here’s the photo tour!
Yeeaaahh. See why my suburb dream is suddenly on the back burner? I realize I will probably never again have a space like this.
It’s still really functional for our family in here…The shelving unit is acting as a divider to block your view of our treadmill, which is hiding back there, along with the stroller. It’s also easy-peasy to move one of my tables out of the way to make room for our blow-up guest bed when we have visitors. I have already cranked three projects out in here since finishing the room, and I seriously couldn’t be happier. I realize how unbelievably lucky I am, and I can’t stop pinching myself!!
Who wants to come over and sew?
