Greetings from sunny Denver, CO! I photographed my second Grainline Studio Archer Shirt (see my first one here) before I left NYC, so I could show it to ya, but as we speak I’m typing from the living room of a cute little apartment in downtown Denver (where Sadie and I are visiting my hubby, who is here for work), and looking forward to the 81 degree day ahead. WOOHOO!!! Suck it New York winter. I’m done with yee. You better have sorted out this spring thing by the time I get home in a couple of weeks.
As much as I wear this top (as evidenced by the fact that it’s wrinkled in these photos. Oops!), this crisp Rag and Bone cotton shirting from Mood definitely highlights the fit issues I still have with this pattern. Its doing some crazy diagonal pulling from the shoulder to the button band, and the back definitely bothers me…the pooling/bunching and then the clinging on my hips. BUT. I did make some changes for this version that I like…I made the sleeve pleats half the size of the original drafting, and took a little volume out of the sleeves all the way up. I also shortened the shoulder seam just a tad.
Still a work in progress (so are my pattern matching skills apparently, judging by the barely-off front. Oops again!), but I’m loving making button up shirts. Totally loving it. As much as I’m dying for winter to be over, I’m a teensy bit sad that it doesn’t make sense for me to sew up another ten of these.
That said, I’ve just finished a third version while here in Denver (my hubby managed to talk the wardrobe department of his show into loaning me a fabulous old Bernina while I’m here, including a buttonhole foot! Major score. Brownie points forever!), and I can’t wait to get back home so I can photograph it for you. Cause I think I’ve finally sorted out all the fit issues. I hope.
Anyway, here’s Archer number 2!
I’m off to track a pair of sandals that Zappos should be delivering today, cause this mama of the year only packed boots for Sadie. I blame the endless NY winter that made it impossible for me to imagine spring might actually be arriving elsewhere. I also forgot to bring her hairbrush. No excuse there.
